Boating With Will Wearne

Dave and I had the opportunity to help out Will Wearne and his Young Men and Young Women of his ward. He is the bishop in Duncan Arizona. We met them at Roosevelt Lake. It took them like 3hrs or more to get there. For us it was only an hour and a half. We had a fun day. The water was great  and its not as busy at this lake like Saguaro or Canyon lake.

These boys had fun trying out knee boarding, wakeboarding and double skiing
After we dropped them off and sent them on their way home Dave and I headed over to the marina to get some ice cream
What this almost looks like Lake Powell.....but its not. I did not know they had houseboats at Roosevelt Lake

As Dave and I sat eating our ice cream we watched two storms on the  mountain pass by. We thought they were coming into the marina but they were heading the other way. So we decided to head back to the dock and load the boat up and head home.

Well the storm over by the dock was more intense and headed our way.  We ended up not being able to trailer the boat. The wind came up and the waves got more intense. So Dave just said we will wait it out and let it pass.
Well it got worse. There were white capes and the water was really really ruff.

This picture really does not show it's justice but the whitecaps went into swells. They were like 5-6 feet swells. Scared me to death. Thought I was on the ocean. So Dave and another boat decided to just roll with the swells. He is such a smart man.....We put our life jackets on for safety. we rolled with the swells for like 20-25 mins.

We ended up finding a shallow water and the swells calmed down a bit but then we had lighting right on top of us!! WOW I really thought that we were going to get hit by lighting!!! That made me nervous!! Then the rain came down pouring!! We finally was able to come in and trailer the boat. When we came back to the dock there were two ambulance there. We thought that someone got hurt in the storm. But I had 3 rangers and a gentleman come down by where we had the boat tied up to the dock and was talking about the boat that was submerged in the water around the corner. We came to find out the boat got submerged because of the big swells. They had a ski boat that sits lower to the water. And they tried to beach their boat for safety to let the storm pass, but the swells just overwhelmed their boat. They were all safe. The ambulance were just a stage to make sure no one was hurt.
So this family has to find a way to get their boat out of the water!! Like I said David was smart in what he did with our boat. Rode it out with the swells. I told the ranger what we did and she said you were smart in what you did. I have been in storms at Lake Powell many of times, but this storm was much bigger and scarier.
Glad to have the boat out of the water safe!!!
And to top the day off I twisted my ankle while water skiing. The wake was really big going back into it and I was trying hard to get my ski to go straight but the wake caught the tip of it and I went down falling and I was trying hard not to fall and in the end I twisted my ankle. Bummer!!!! But a great day at the lake still indeed!!

Mowing The Lawn And Seeing A Sunset

I have this new camera the Nikon D5200 and was playing around with the settings while watching this sunset go down. Aww it was beautiful. And David was out mowing the lawn to. He was doing it later in the evening because it was much cooler!!

You can mow at night if you have headlights on your mower!
Jaren sure is proud of this deer head. He got it back last month and has been dying to put it up. Leonard is his name! And he was to cute to put the picture by it with him and his dad when he shot the deer. Memories!! I like that between a boy and his dad. Well a young man. He is not a boy any more.

Lake Powell Family Trip

Ahh this was a fun trip. Jancia and Cam was was wanting to do this trip because its been so long since they have had a real vacation. With Cam doing school has not allowed him to vacation!! So this was a week off for them both and we went to Lake Powell! And hey I'm right along with them!! We left on a early Saturday  morning like 3am so that it would be cooler to travel. We were having some very hot temperatures and we had less traffic to deal with as well. And the road going up to Page Az is still closed so we had to go around through Tuba City. Made the trip a little longer. We got to Page and went right to Wal-mart and shopped  for groceries and headed out with the houseboat about 3pm in the afternoon. That is against David's better judgement. We usually don't take it out that late in the afternoon. But we did it! What our plan was is that we got the houseboat out and tied down then we had to take David back to Wahweap and he had to head back home and work for a few days. Then he brought back Jaylyn and Jacob and Breken on Weds before the 4th of July.

These were the sunsets heading to our camping spot. Sooo beautiful

These sage brush in the water is not a good sign! Big storm hit and it was not pretty!
It made a mess!!

Cleaning up that mess was just miserable!! We vacuumed up a whole bag of sand!
We were taking a boat ride and saw these people up on top of the rim and said what are they doing? So we stopped and this is what we saw. They were jumping int he water. It was so cool to find this. The water is way down right now so this is a fun find. When the water is up you wont see this.

Janica was brave and jumped.

We headed up this canyon called Cathedral Canyon. Such a fun one.

It's oreo time

Then we went up Twilight Canyon. That's where we have Dave's drive in for lunch

Then we were at Dangling rope when they announced that a weather storm was issued and that we needed to find a beach and park and wait for the storm to pass. They estimated  winds to be 70mph. Well we did not have 70mph winds. More like 30 which was till strong. It was  a mess in the main channel for boating. The rain was hitting us so hard. We laughed a lot and I will have to admit I was a little scared. Not the first lake powell storm I have been in and certainly not the last either.

We stopped and found a beach to wait out the storm and let it pass so the boys climbed this mountain to see where the storm was heading
Glad to know it passed and we found out house boat all ok !!
These two boys had fun FISHING!!!!
What a life for Tawni!! She is actually sleeping in Janica's arms!
Shadows on the mountain! Breken had fun seeing his shadow on the mountain while playing in the dark

And yes he liked playing in the sand naked!! Only 3 yr olds gets to do this kind of fun......

Jaylyn, mine and Janica's legs. Checking out who has the best tan going on. Jaylyn is a white girl...Mama has the best but Janica is second in line. The kids used to get really taned when we would be at powell for the summer. But when you have school and work you don't get to see the sun to much.
Mr. B....
On the 4th of July we wanted to head to Antelope Point and eat and watch their fire works there. But we decided that with all the storms coming and going we decided to stay close to camp and watch the fire works from on top of the houseboat. Other houseboaters bring some pretty awesome fireworks to the lake. so we watched about 3 different boaters displaying their fireworks.

We had a great time. Even with all the 10% rain and that 10% seemed to be around us all time. We did have some really sunny hot days. This was a much hotter trip then what we usually have. It was unseasonably warm this 4th of July. But I know that we all had fun!! Whoo hoo I love Lake Powell!!
